Answer
Hair loss genes can be inherited from either your mother or father. It does not have to show up in men and can be passed on for several generations before a man will get the genes and then show up with male pattern baldness. Only in the past year have we been able to do a genetic test by swabbing the inside of the cheek to find out if you are carrying the gene from your mother or father and it can also tell you if you will get a good response using Propecia. I would not recommend the use of Rogaine to try to prevent male pattern baldness since it does not affect the DHT hormone that tells hairs to grow old and fall out.
You can read more about the test at www.hairdx.com
and about Propecia at www.propecia.com
