Question
Hello, my name is mark. I am a 15 year old highschool student. I have currently Bern experiencing hair loss for 2 years. It started when I was thirteen years old. It started out with thinning on top of my head. Than jus this year I have been experiencing additional hair loss around the crown. My father is bald, and my mother's hair is just a little bit thicker than mine. I use to have such light hair and it seems the older I Get the darker it becomes. I am currently using baby sampoo and taking vitamins b pills. I play for my highschool football team. After practice I can really see how much thinner my hair is compared to the rest of the guys. I have not yet spoken to my doctor by I am plannning on doing that soon. My sister is also having some hair loss as well. She notices that her hair is not as thick as it use to. She Is also using baby shampoo becaus she claims that the others shampoos she used are harming her hair. My fathers brother does not have the same degree of hair loss as my dad. Please offer your advice and thani you for listening! :)
Answer
Mark,
Even though you were only 13 when you first noticed the loss it most likely is inherited male pattern baldness. Your sister could also be showing the first signs of inherited loss. Both of your parents apparently are carrying the bald genes and both you and your sister seem to have inherited them. If you wanted to have proof that you are carrying the genes there is a genetic test that can be done by swabbing the inside of your cheek. Go to www.hairdx.com to learn about that. You should see a dermatologist to confirm that your loss is due to inherited factors.
Hair normally gets darker as you get to puberty and that is also when male hormone begins to tell the hairs to fall out. Shampoos and vitamins are not going to change the situation.
