Question
I am 57 and I had an oophorectomy & hysterectomy 1.5 yrs. ago. I experienced hair loss, especially in the crown. I have been on .625 mg. premarin for 4 mos, increased to .9 mg premar in the last 2 months plus 200 mg. day of aldactone (increased gradually over 5 months). The hair loss has definitely stopped, but the hair follicles in the crown area are growing in thin, and I am concerned that things will still get worse. Would you recommend adding Avodart to the mix of prescription medicines?
Answer
You most likely have female pattern hair loss. If you want to confirm this then get a scalp biopsy. Avodart does not work in most women. The only medication that has been shown to work consistently is Rogaine For Men because it is stronger than Rogaine For Women.
