Question
hi - as i mentioned in earlier emails, i was going through yet another bout of TE after surgery. the shedding has stablized basically for the last 2 months (occasional higher days here and there but for the most part i lose about 80-100 hairs total on the days i wash and 10-20 total on non wash days and i wash my hair every other day) and i went to my derm and he did the hair pull test, said the TE was over and said he can see regrowth. my question is that i notice the new hair that's growing in and my hair texture in general, has changed -it's much greyer and has a more frizzy texture. is it possible for hair to grow back different after te?
thanks
Answer
Hi Sue: Sometimes new hair growth will be soft, fine an non-pigmented. These hairs usually eventually darken and thicken. Some women have reported new hair growth to be a wavier, healthier texture. It is possible for new hair growth from telogen effluvium to have frizzy texture but it is not common. If it stays that way as it continues to grow it might indicate a nutritional deficiency or systemic problem. Sometimes new hair growth from androgenetic alopecia grows in frizzy or kinky in the affected areas.
Eating well, taking supplements and scalp massage with essential oils may help with texture. Also using natural products such as henna, amla and cassia obovata can help the texture and condition of your hair. It is important to use the highest quality, purest products. I will include a link below.
